*Although their names are similar, TRICARE and TRIWEST are not the same program. TRICARE is a government-run network of healthcare benefits for active-duty and retired service members and their families. TRIWEST is a healthcare alliance run by a third-party administrator who is contracted with the VA to administer care when a VA facility cannot accommodate the needs of eligible veterans. Unlike TRICARE, TRIWEST can be used only by veterans and not by their families.
