How CBT for Depression Works
CBT-D is based on the principle that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Depression often involves negative thought patterns about yourself, the world, and the future that create a cycle of low mood and withdrawal.
In CBT-D, your provider helps you identify these patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic thinking. You also build behavioral activation skills, gradually re-engaging with the activities and people that bring meaning and pleasure.
